Shanghai Advance Overview
Shanghai Advance is a 2D side-scrolling platformer for the Game Boy Advance. The narrative is set after the first series title but before the events of Risky's Revenge, with the protagonist Shantae opposing the pirate Risky Boots once more.
Risky Boots has acquired a device capable of altering the landscape, a tool which Shantae must also learn to use. This mechanic allows for the modification of level layouts to discover new routes. Movement is further expanded by a system that lets Shantae transition into the background plane to bypass obstacles.
Combat primarily utilizes Shantae's hair as a whip-like weapon. A key feature is her ability to assume six distinct forms, each providing different capabilities for navigation and interaction with the environment. Beyond the primary adventure, the software includes a separate competitive mode for up to four participants.
