Colin McRae Rally 2.0 Overview
Colin McRae Rally 2.0 for the Game Boy Advance is a handheld adaptation of a simulation-focused racing title. Its primary rally championship spans six international locations, each containing multiple stages that must be driven sequentially.
The experience is built around vehicle tuning and damage management, allowing adjustments to key components like suspension and tyres. Repairs between stages consume time, adding a strategic layer to the challenging campaign. Players can access single rallies or stages for practice, while a time trial mode is also present for individual segments.
Beyond the main rally simulation, an arcade mode provides conventional circuit racing on six dedicated tracks. This mode supports single races, championships, and time trials, and includes a multiplayer function via link cable requiring only one game cartridge.
Technically, the game renders tracks using a scaling and rotating bitmap system, with cars as texture-mapped polygons. Authenticity is enhanced during rally events by digitized pace notes from Colin McRae's real co-driver, Nicky Grist. Five licensed rally cars are available, and certain tracks are locked until the championship is won.
