Bionicle Heroes Overview
Bionicle Heroes for the Game Boy Advance adapts the LEGO franchise into a top-down action game. The narrative follows the Toa Inika team's mission on Voya Nui to recover the stolen Mask of Life from the Piraka gang.
Progression is organized around six island zones, each culminating in a boss fight. Defeating these bosses unlocks new elemental Toa forms, granting access to Fire, Air, Stone, Ice, Earth, and Water masks. Each form provides a distinct primary weapon and a secondary attack governed by a rechargeable energy meter. The game requires specific forms to advance through certain zones, though a Free Play mode allows revisiting completed areas with the freedom to switch forms at will.
Combat is supported by proto-spawn orbs that orbit the player and attack enemies. These companions can be upgraded and customized across the six elements, with firing patterns and effects like explosive shots or shield penetration. Further tactical options come from elemental runes, which offer temporary powers such as freezing foes, creating a lightning shield, or granting invulnerability.
Environmental interaction is key, as destroying objects yields LEGO pieces that restore health, award points, and are used as construction materials. Players build structures like bridges, turrets, and moving platforms to navigate. Performance is tracked through a ranking system at each zone's end, with twelve medals to earn, some exclusive to Free Play.
Scattered secrets include cheat words that unlock various modifiers, such as a golden Toa skin, a sombrero mask, a music jukebox, special weapons, or gameplay-altering effects like invincibility.
