Witch Hunt Overview
Witch Hunt was one of those games that felt like a staple of the Flash era. It appeared online around 2006, a time when simple, single-screen games could hold your attention for hours. You played as a witch hunter, tasked with clearing a village of its supernatural infestation. The setting was a dark, scrolling forest at night, with peasants wandering the paths below your stationary position.
You control a crosshair, moving it with your mouse to aim at the villagers. Your goal is to eliminate the witches hiding among them without harming the innocent. You have three methods: burning, drowning, or hanging. Each requires a different action, like dragging a peasant to a pyre or a well. The challenge comes from the pacing; the villagers move constantly, and you must act quickly before a witch escapes off-screen. Making a mistake by executing a regular villager ends the game. It feels tense and deliberate, a test of observation and speed under pressure.
