Strategy Defense 4 Overview
Strategy Defense 4 was one of those games you'd find tucked away on a Flash portal in the late 2000s. It fit right in with the era's straightforward, browser-based strategy titles. You loaded it up, and there was no lengthy tutorial or story setup; you were just dropped into a conflict.
You control a base on one side of the screen, with the enemy base directly opposite. Your job is to build a steady stream of units, from basic infantry to heavier vehicles, and send them marching across the map to destroy the opponent's headquarters. The moment-to-moment play involves managing your resource income, which trickles in automatically, and deciding when to spend it on new unit types or upgrades. You're constantly watching the battle line, seeing which of your units are effective and adjusting your production to counter what the computer is sending. The pacing is relentless; if you fall behind in building your army, the enemy's forces will quickly overwhelm your defenses. It feels like a constant, tense tug-of-war where a single wrong purchase can tip the balance.
