Arrakis Overview
Arrakis is a real-time strategy title developed by Stefan Hendriks that adapts the setting of Frank Herbert's Dune. Players assume control of one of three Great Houses, each vying for dominance over the planet that is the sole source of the spice melange.
The core mechanics are directly inspired by the Command & Conquer series, utilizing a point-and-click interface with a vertical sidebar for production. Although all factions share an identical set of units and structures, they are differentiated through statistical modifiers affecting cost, durability, speed, and combat strength. This creates distinct strategic profiles, from the balanced Atreides to the powerful but costly Harkonnen and the swift, fragile Ordos forces.
Content includes three separate single-player campaigns, totaling thirty missions, alongside skirmish play against computer opponents. While multiplayer is absent, the game provides a random map generator for skirmishes and includes an editor for custom maps. The audiovisual presentation employs original graphics reminiscent of later Command & Conquer titles, while sound effects are repurposed from Dune II; music is not featured, though the engine allows for custom audio file playback.
