MazezaM Challenge Overview
MazezaM Challenge is a Super Nintendo Entertainment System puzzle game that originated as a winning homebrew entry in a 2012 competition. It is a remake of a 2002 ZX Spectrum title, later distributed both as a ROM file and on physical cartridge.
The gameplay involves manipulating rows of objects on a single screen to create a path to an exit, a concept derived from but distinct from Soko-Ban puzzles. Unlike moving individual blocks, the player shifts entire rows left or right when space permits, requiring a specific sequence of these horizontal moves to achieve vertical progress. The design offers challenging logic problems with typically one solution and very limited maneuvering room.
This version introduces several new elements, including a complete visual overhaul with pixel art graphics. Player interaction is simplified to directional pad inputs for movement, with a separate button to reset the current level at the cost of one life. The game provides three lives initially and implements a password system for progress tracking across its 33 SNES levels.
