Totally Spies: Spy Chess Overview
Totally Spies: Spy Chess was one of those Flash games you'd find on a fan site in the mid-2000s. It took the characters from the cartoon and dropped them onto a chessboard, a simple concept that fit right into the era of quick, browser based games. You didn't need an account or a download; you just clicked and started playing.
You control one of the three spies, moving them like chess pieces across the board against the Macho Trio. Each turn, you click your character and the game shows you which squares are legal moves, lighting them up. The goal is to trap the opponents so they have no squares left to move to, which is the checkmate condition. Objects sometimes appear on the board, and if you land on them, you get a temporary power up, like moving extra spaces. The pacing is deliberate, more about planning your trap than fast action. It feels like a stripped down, slightly silly version of chess where you're chasing cartoon villains instead of kings and queens.
