Thump Overview
Thump was one of those straightforward racing games you'd find on a Flash portal in the mid-2000s. It didn't have a big studio name attached, just a simple premise and a familiar goal. You were there to race against a clock, not other cars, which gave it a solitary, focused feel.
You control a low-polygon car from a third-person view, navigating tight, winding tracks. The main objective is simple: finish each lap before the timer hits zero. You accelerate with the up arrow, steer with left and right, and use the down arrow to brake or reverse. The space bar honks the horn, a small touch that served no real purpose but felt satisfying. The tracks are narrow, often with sharp turns and obstacles lining the edges, so a momentary lapse in steering sends you scraping against a wall and losing precious speed. The pacing is relentless; the timer is rarely generous, pushing you to memorize turns and maintain momentum. It feels like a constant, tense negotiation between speed and control.
