Super Energy Apocalypse: Recycled! Overview
Super Energy Apocalypse: Recycled! was a Flash game from the era when you could find a surprising amount of depth in a browser tab. It came out in 2009, a time when many of these games explored simple concepts with a twist. This one took the familiar setup of a base defense against waves of enemies and layered it with a resource management puzzle that felt distinct.
You control the operations of a small outpost from a top-down view, using your mouse to place buildings and manage resources. Your main objective is to survive an onslaught of mutant creatures by powering your defenses, but every choice has a cost. You generate energy by constructing power plants, choosing between cleaner options like wind turbines or more polluting ones like coal plants. The cleaner energy is weaker and more expensive, while the dirty energy is cheaper and more powerful but increases the pollution level. A higher pollution meter directly strengthens the attacking hordes, creating a constant tension between immediate power and long-term survival. The pacing is methodical between waves, but the attacks themselves are relentless, demanding quick adjustments to your layout. It feels like a precarious balancing act where your own shortcuts come back to haunt you.
