Sunburn Overview
Sunburn was one of those odd little games that felt right at home in the Flash era. You'd find it on a portal, click to load, and within seconds you were thrown into its simple, slightly absurd premise. It came out in 2005, made by a developer named Tom Fulp.
You control the sun itself, a bright circle at the top of the screen. With the arrow keys, you tilt your rays down onto a crowded beach below. Your goal is to burn as many people as possible before the timer runs out. People run for cover under umbrellas or into the water, so you have to be quick. The challenge comes from managing the crowd's panic; they scramble and cluster, making you chase them. It starts calmly but gets frantic as the beach empties and you hunt the last few stragglers. The game feels like a strange, pressure-filled race against the clock.
