Spindle Overview
Spindle came out during the Flash era, a time when you could find a lot of experimental action games in your browser. It was a point and click beat 'em up, known for its rough style and straightforward premise. You controlled a character simply called Spindle, a maniac set loose in a gritty urban setting.
You guide Spindle through a series of interconnected screens, using the arrow keys to move and clicking to interact with objects or enemies. The moment to moment play involves a mix of exploration and combat. You punch thugs with the S key, jump with D, and can eventually find guns to use with A. The main objective is to fight your way through the city, solving simple environmental puzzles to progress; you often need to backtrack to find a key or trigger. The pacing is deliberate, with a difficulty that comes from the limited health and aggressive enemies. It feels like navigating a hostile, claustrophobic comic panel where every corner might hold a threat.
