Pathways Overview
Pathways was one of those quiet, thoughtful puzzles you'd find in the Flash era. It didn't have loud animations or a story. It was just you, a grid, and a simple rule to follow. The screen was mostly empty, with the rule written plainly on the left side and the playing field on the right. It felt like a personal challenge, the kind of game you'd open in a browser tab and work on between other tasks.
You control a cursor, clicking on numbered tiles from the bottom left corner. Your job is to trace a continuous path to the exit, usually at the top right. Each move must obey the mathematical rule shown, like only stepping onto multiples of three or perfect squares. You plan several steps ahead, but a single wrong click breaks your chain and forces a restart. The puzzles start gently, then introduce larger grids and more complex rules that demand careful attention. It feels like quietly untangling a knot in your mind.
