Oiligarchy Overview
Oiligarchy was one of those games that felt right at home in the Flash era. It came out around 2008, a time when you could find a lot of satirical, click-heavy simulations in your browser. The game had a clear, cynical point of view about the oil industry, and it didn't try to hide it. You weren't meant to come away feeling like a hero.
You play as the head of an oil company. Your main goal is to make as much money as possible before the world's oil runs out. Moment to moment, you're clicking to place oil derricks, build refineries, and lay pipelines. You also manage a political side, using your profits to lobby senators and influence elections, which helps you remove environmental regulations. The pacing starts deceptively simple but gets frantic as resources dwindle and public unrest grows. It feels like a race against your own greed, where every click to drill another well brings you closer to an inevitable, messy end.
