You control Homer directly with your mouse, clicking to move him around each static screen. The moment to moment play involves inspecting objects, picking up items like keys or tools, and using them on the environment to disable traps or unlock doors. Your main objective is to solve the puzzle in each room to proceed and eventually rescue Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. Some puzzles require timing, like dodging a swinging blade, while others are about finding the right item combination. The pacing is slow and methodical, but a wrong move can lead to a cartoonish, grisly end for Homer, which restarts the puzzle.
