Bum Rush Overview

Bum Rush was one of those games you'd find in the Flash Classic era, a time when simple, direct browser games were everywhere. It came out in 2005, made by a developer named J. P. K. It didn't try to be anything more than a quick, chaotic bit of fun you could play between other things.

You control a character on a skateboard, rolling automatically down a city sidewalk. Your job is to clear the path of homeless people, or bums, who are sitting or standing in the way. You use the arrow keys to move left and right, positioning yourself to hit them. One button throws a high punch, another a low kick. The main objective is to get the highest score before the timer runs out, which happens after about fifty seconds. You lose points if you crash into obstacles like trash cans or lampposts, so you have to weave through the clutter while swinging. The pacing is relentless; the bums keep appearing, and the timer counts down fast. It feels like a frantic, slightly absurd race against the clock where you're just trying to cause as much mayhem as possible before time's up.
