Show Jumping Overview
Show Jumping was one of those straightforward games you'd find during the Flash era. It didn't have complex menus or a story. You just loaded it up and were at the starting gate. The graphics were simple, with flat colors and basic shapes for the horse and obstacles. It felt like a digital version of a pencil-and-paper game someone might sketch out during a slow afternoon.
You control a horse and rider from a top-down perspective. The main objective is to complete a course of numbered jumps with as few faults as possible. You use the arrow keys to steer and build speed, pressing the spacebar to jump as you approach each fence. The challenge comes from managing your horse's stamina, shown by a tiredness meter. If you push too hard, the horse slows to a trot and you'll likely miss your timing. The obstacles are numbered, and you must jump them in the correct sequence. Each knockdown or refusal adds four faults to your score. The pacing is deliberate, requiring you to plan your path and conserve energy for the later jumps. It feels like a careful balancing act between speed and control.
