Centipede Overview
Centipede was one of those games that defined the early arcade era, and its Flash version brought that experience to browsers. It arrived during a time when simple, direct games were common, and it fit right in. You would find it on websites alongside other quick diversions, a digital version of a cabinet that demanded focus.
You control a small ship at the bottom of the screen, moving it left and right with your mouse. Your goal is to destroy the centipede as it winds down through a field of mushrooms. You fire upward with a click, chipping away at the creature's segments. Each segment you hit becomes a new mushroom, which slows the centipede's path but also clutters your space. Spiders dart in erratically from the sides, and fleas drop from above, adding constant pressure. The game starts calmly but quickly builds to a frantic pace where every shot and dodge matters. It feels like a tense, escalating scramble for survival.
