Air Raid Basketball Overview
Air Raid Basketball was one of those simple, frantic games you'd find in the Flash era. It came out in 2002, a time when a quick browser game could easily fill a few minutes. The developer was a studio called Skyworks, known for a handful of other arcade-style sports titles. It didn't try to be a simulation. Instead, it offered a stripped-down, almost abstract take on one-on-one basketball.
You control a single player on a court viewed from the side. Movement is limited to left and right, with a button for jumping and shooting. The core loop is immediate. You dash back and forth, trying to steal the ball from your opponent or intercept their passes. Once you have possession, you need to time your jump to launch the ball toward the hoop. The physics are exaggerated. The ball arcs in high, floaty trajectories, and players can leap surprisingly high to block shots. The main objective is to outscore the other player within the time limit. The pace is relentless, with constant turnovers and quick shots. It feels like a hectic, physical scramble more than a strategic sport.
